• Coverage gap risk – ESU enrollment does not auto-renew. A missed Year 2 purchase means unpatched, unsupported devices starting October 14, 2026.
• Price doubles each year – ESU pricing is cumulative by design. Year 2 will cost more than Year 1, and Year 3 will cost even more, to encourage migration off Windows 10.
• Year 1 is a prerequisite – You cannot purchase Year 2 ESU without an existing Year 1 license on the same device. There's no way to skip ahead.
• Same devices, same edition – Year 2 covers the same Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise devices (version 22H2) that were eligible for Year 1.
