Microsoft SQL Server User CALs allow users to access the SQL Database no matter the devices they use. User CALs are more cost-effective if each User needs to access the server from different workstations, locations, or devices.

If you need to have external users such as a contractor accessing the database, you will need to purchase a User CAL for each contractor. These CALs can then be moved to another contractor when they are no longer on the job.

What do I get with my purchase?

Upon standalone purchase of Client Access Licenses (CALs) with Software Assurance, you will recieve a PDF as proof of purchase to Microsoft. When CALs are purchased alongside a server license, the invoice is used as proof of purchase.

How long does it take to receive my purchase?

Registration with Microsoft is required for Software Assurance products. After registration, you will receive your licensing email within 1–2 business days.
